Zeppelli's family, who'd served the King, had to disappear as Naples was absorbed into Italy proper. There's one final gut punch right before the end: Marco, the boy that Zeppelli so desperately wanted to save from an unjust execution, manages to outlast the Kingdom of Naples, but dies shortly after of a cold of all things.This from what was possibly the most stoic JoJo of all (aside from Jotaro and Giorno).
This is one series that constantly averts Real Men Don't Cry often, but this is probably the biggest and best example of this- Gyro's death tears Johnny apart inside, and he spends most of the final conflict with Valentine in tears. This is followed by a several-page spread of their memories of building a strong bond. After killing Funny Valentine, he sees his ghost and the latter gives his farewells. Johnny doesn't even scream out his name everything happened so fast and he was so dumbfounded that he couldn't do anything but watch, teary-eyed and desperate. We are treated to a close up on Johnny's visibly heartbroken expression, as well as a flashback to everything that had happened before. Alternate Diego died the same way Dio did, feeling like a complete failure before the heroes. At least Diego died feeling victorious and believing he defeated Valentine. Both of them died from being cut in half. In addition to that, the fact that Diego suffered basically the same fate as Dio. 
Diego's backstory, which includes his own mother basically killing herself to make sure he gets fed.Support he'd dearly need in his final battle against the alternate Diego. What's more, the crowd seems to be icy faced to him pouring his heart out in support of his son, but then the reader is shown a little girl who starts clapping with tears in her eyes and further panels show the whole crowd is teary-eyed as they begin clapping at George's speech and in support of Johnny.
